Adverse Childhood Experience Data Report, 2011-2017
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events, including child maltreatment and family dysfunction, that occur in ones life before the age of 18. Effects of ACEs can disturb brain development, alter immune system and how the body responds to stress. This can impact a persons ability to earn financially, learn, and be healthy of the course of a lifetime. Having experienced four or more ACEs drastically increases the risk for nine out of ten of the leading causes of death in adulthood.
Data was collected every other year for this study 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017. Responses can range from 0-8 , as eight questions are asked in a randomized telephone survey of non-incarsorated adults in California.
